Forgiving My Father

My father was emotionally bankrupt. He was a very strict, dominating, and authoritarian person. If he said the sky was was purple and you didn’t agree with him, there will be a big argument in the house. He was an excellent provider, but he was not giving emotional support. I felt I could never measure up, or be good enough to get his approval. I was always seeking his support and approval.

When I learned that my parents did the best with what they had to work with in their own lives, enabled me to forgive my father and release him. He could not give me what he did not have. I could not move on in life until I forgave him.

When I forgave him, a brightness and lightness came over me.

Fathers play such a significant role in the daughter’s life. If we don’t get this issue straight, we will continue to look for approval from a man and look for love in all the wrong places.

If you had a father who disappointed you, belittled you, broke your heart, and made you feel like an orphan, forgive him and release him to God.

“Heavenly father, I bring all of my pain and disappointments, rejection, abandonment, and abuse that I experienced through the hands of my father to the foot of the cross. By an act of my will, I choose to forgive my earthly daddy for all the pain and suffering he caused me.

I forgive you daddy for not showing me love, for rejection, abandonment, abuse, and for failing to show me what Father God looks like. I forgive you and release you in Jesus name.”
