I have the desire to get married and to have a family, but it did not materialize in the manner I chose. I was disappointed with God for quite a long time, because He did not seem to answer the one desire, I wanted fulfilled.
One of the biggest disappointments in life, is when we have an expectation of something which does not manifest in the timing or manner we want. These disappointments sometimes lead to a loss of hope, and depression.
Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.
“Delight yourself in the Lord; And He will give you the desires of your heart.” Psalm 37:4, NASB
An unfulfilled desire, however, can make you feel desperate, and you want to help God by answering your own prayer.
I prayed all kind of prayers, spoke the Word, did everything I knew to do as a Christian. But to no avail, that prayer wasn’t answered in my timing. One thing, I really didn’t do was to surrender my requests into His hand, and to totally give Him permission to direct my life in that area. There was really no peace in that part of my life until I surrendered that portion to God. Please deliver me from me, Lord!
We sometimes have areas in our lives that we keep to ourselves, and we won’t even let God touch those areas. Whether it’s God’s plan for our life or not, we become determined to get what we want.
Take a good hard look at your life. Are there some areas that you haven’t totally surrendered to God?
If you want to kick disappointments out of your life, your expectations must be in line with what He desires. Lord, not my will, but Your will be done.
Lord, I admit I have some areas in my life that I have expectations for You to do, even though they may not be according to Your will. I ask You to forgive me for taking the reins of my life, and dictating to You what’s best for me. This life is supposed to be a cooperation between You and me. I give You permission to change and re-arrange any right or expectation I have set up as more important than You. I make You, Lord of my expectations.
In Jesus Name. Amen.
